Spiritual Emergency

Spiritual Emergency is a profound and often dramatic transformational crisis.  The person is overwhelmed by psycho-spiritual experiences, including a Dark Night of the Soul, and can no longer function well at work or within family and relationships. The spiritual experiences may be caused by spiritual practices like yoga and meditation, or other factors like near–death experience, fasting, trauma, grief, recreational drugs,  spiritual plant medicines, the global crisis or even one’s natural gifts of intuition, etc. The symptoms of this crisis are often confused with symptoms of mental illness and, in this case, the individual will likely be treated with anti-psychotic drugs via bio-medically trained practitioners. Unfortunately, over time this protocol can harm the person in spiritual crisis, so a different kind of treatment is advised. The positive potential of the crisis (when well managed): a person who has more peace, empathy and clarity, is motivated by more wisdom and compassion, and wants to make a positive contribution to the world.  Our Certified Spiritual Emergence Coaches are trained to offer support.

In The 5 Webinars You Learn:
  • The 12 different ways this crisis may manifest
  • The 9 catalysts of spiritual emergency
  • How to recognize a spiritual emergency vis a vis mental disorder
  • How to assess someone’s condition and what they need
  • How to best care for someone in spiritual emergency
  • How to best care for yourself during or after spiritual emergency
  • The positive transformative outcomes of spiritual emergency
  • What seers predicted (that we would be inundated with this crisis now)

A Pioneering Approach to Mental Health Care and
a Pathway to Optimal Well Being from Brazil

There is a spiritual group in Brazil that supports personal spiritual evolution in a contemporary way—and has a history dating back to Paris in the 1850s. This group now has c.13,000 community centers offering complementary therapies for free (in Brazil), as well as 50 psychiatric hospitals offering the full range of modern treatments for those who are emotionally disturbed. What’s unusual in the hospitals is that psychiatrists collaborate with medical intuitives for both diagnosis and treatment—and enhance the effectiveness of both.

Dr. Bragdon seasons her presentations with humor, cartoons, and personal stories. You will feel enriched by the information and more hopeful about the positive changes we can make in ourselves and in our mental healthcare to optimize wellbeing.

I thought there were some great resources given within this training – and I particularly loved the Stanislav Grof framework of 12 sources of spiritual emergence/emergency. A wide range of material was covered, illustrating the various sources of spiritual emergency, which was really helpful.
I thought there was too much emphasis on the Spiritist model of healing – which is interesting but only one of the available options.
And I think there could be additional resources provided under the shamanic and hallucinogenic sections, where the information was limited.
Overall however it has definitely added to my appreciation of the wide ranging causes of spiritual emergence/emergency and some of the options available to assist clients/patients who display some of these symptoms.
I am not trained as a psychiatrist and hence discerning whether clients/patients are genuinely suffering from a mental health issue that may need psychiatric care or whether they are suffering from spirit attachments, connection with the non-local field or inforealm or other trauma (personal or ancestral or karmic) has always been one of my concerns. This course was helpful in giving some pointers to this dilemma.
