LEARN FROM AN EXPERT how Yoga can be used to address emotional well-being. This is especially important for those suffering with emotional disturbances like anxiety and depression. While many turn to Yoga for staying toned and flexible, some classes are heated up and amped up. In that case people seeking calm may attend a Hatha Yoga class that aggravates and does not lead to more peace! Learning what kind of yoga fully supports recovery of wellbeing is essential. It also has a scientific base.
Research demonstrates how effective certain yoga practices are for improving mental health and well-being and developing tools for self-regulation. These practices include postures, breathing practices, and meditation. Kristine’s practice is an exceptionally adaptable person-centered approach to yoga practice which may be tailored to clients with differing abilities. It fosters the development of attention and mindfulness, and promotes spiritual development in the context of any belief system.
Format:
- The first one hour webinar is with Kristine Weber, a yoga therapist, master teacher and trainer of healthcare providers. She includes a discussion about the mental health benefits of yoga. She gives information about its underlying neurological and biological mechanisms. She also includes the evidence base of yoga practice for mental health, and clinical applications. The last 15 minutes of the hour are devoted to a recorded session of live Q&A.
- Kristine recorded two 30 minute Yoga practice sessions, one in a chair and the other on a mat, which you can view at your convenience. You will learn several safe, effective, yoga-based interventions which you can use for self-regulation for yourself or to teach clients. Most people, regardless of their athletic capacity, can learn to use these practices safely and effectively. The 3rd session is Yoga Nidra–a guided meditation to help calm and promote sleep. Yoga Nidra is a recording from a different yoga instructor.
- Brett Sculthorp, LCSW, is a psychotherapist and Kristine’s partner. You can watch a live 45 minute conversation in which Brett will discuss outcomes with his clients, how he combines yoga with psychotherapy, and how yogic philosophy cultivates wellbeing. He also answered questions from the live audience for 15 minutes which was recorded.
You will learn how to:
- Describe the top-down and bottom-up basis for the effectiveness of Subtle® Yoga interventions.
- Explain the difference between an exercise versus a nervous system regulation approach to your practice goals.
- Demonstrate at least five postures, breathing and/or meditation practices which can help mitigate symptoms of depression and anxiety.
- Implement yoga in your practice as a counselor or therapist to support clients with emotional disturbances
- Bring practical, supportive elements of yogic philosophy into your practice as a therapist
- Find references to relevant research on the positive impact of yoga
